About Chanfu Temple

Chanfu Temple is located on the north bank of Beihai in Beijing. It was built in the 11th year of Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1746). It was originally the site of Taisu Palace in the Ming Dynasty. Emperor Qianlong ordered the temple to be converted into a lamasery at the behest of his biological mother, the Empress Dowager Chongqing. It was modeled after the Longxing Temple in Zhengding, Hebei Province. It is the first Tibetan Buddhist building complex in Beihai and an important place for the royal family of the Qing Dynasty to offer sacrifices and pray for blessings. The temple is known as the "No. 1 Fu Temple in Beijing" and is a temple directly under the Qing dynasty. The main building includes the mountain gate, the Heavenly King's Hall and the three-story Grand Buddha Hall.
