About Shi Fang (Marble Boat)

Qingyan Boat, also known as Shifang, is located in the Summer Palace at No. 19 Xinjian Gongmen Road, Haidian District, Beijing. It was originally the release platform of Yuanjing Temple in the Ming Dynasty. It was built in the 20th year of Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1755) and rebuilt in the 20th year of Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1894). During the reconstruction, it was rebuilt according to the intention of the Empress Dowager Cixi and renamed to its current name, which means "He Qing Hai Yan". During the Qianlong period, a life release event was held here every year on the eighth day of April. Qingyan Fang is 36 meters long and faces the water on three sides. The hull is carved from bluestone, with the bow docked to the shore and the stern facing the lake. The cabin is modeled after the French yacht "Xiangfeng". The cabin is a two-story Western-style building, about 8 meters high.
