About Dengjue Temple
Dingjue Temple, also known as Baoguo Temple, is located on the east side of Baoguo Street, Weishan Ancient City, Weishan Yi and Hui Autonomous County, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It was first built in Nanzhao and was the largest during the Wanli Period of the Ming Dynasty, which was its heyday. Dingjue Temple faces south and is the oldest existing Buddhist temple in Weishan. It was the residence of the Seng Gangsi (Buddhist management organization) in the Ming and Qing dynasties. Dongjue Temple currently contains the Taiyang Palace, Luwei Temple, Zhaozhong Temple, main gate and twin towers. The architectural layout of Dongjue Temple is rigorous, integrating pagodas and temples, showing the superb skills of ancient craftsmen. It is an important physical example for the study of early Ming Dynasty wooden architecture and has high cultural relic value.
