About Peter Goullart Former Residence

Gu Peter's former residence is located at No. 38 Jinjia Village, Shizishan West Road, Lijiang City, Yunnan Province. It is a traditional Naxi residence rented by the Russian writer Gu Peter when he lived in Lijiang from 1941 to 1949. The building was originally a three-courtyard building. The two-story arcade where he lived now faces south and faces north. It adopts a structure with double eaves overhanging the top of the mountain. The interior furnishings retain his furniture, books and biographical information. Peter Gu founded the Lijiang Office of the China Industrial Cooperation Association here and completed the book "The Forgotten Kingdom", which recorded the social features of the local Naxi people. The former residence started a rescue renovation in November 2014. The roof, walls and doors were renovated in accordance with the principle of "repairing the old as before".
