About Ancestral Temple of the Queen Mother of the West
The Ancestral Temple of the Queen Mother of the West, also known as Bodhidharma Temple or Empress Temple, is located halfway up the Wolong Mountain in the Haidong Jingqun, Tianshan Tianchi Scenic Area, Fukang City, Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang, with an altitude of about 1,980 meters. According to historical records, the temple was founded in 1923 and had three original halls. It is also said that it was built in the Yuan Dynasty. The existing building was rebuilt on the original site in 1999. The temple formed a large scale during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty and was destroyed in 1944. In 1993, it was announced as a municipal cultural relic protection unit by the Fukang Municipal People's Government. In 1987, the Xinjiang Cultural Relics Department conducted archaeological excavations at the site. In 1989, Taiwanese Taoists initiated reconstruction.
