About Stone City
Stone City is located in Gulou District, Nanjing City. It is a famous relic from the Six Dynasties period. The site is located in the current Qingliang Mountain area and is known as the "First Military Fortress of Soochow". It was built in the seventh year of King Wei of Chu (333 BC). In the 16th year of Jian'an in the Eastern Han Dynasty (211), Sun Quan of the Eastern Wu Dynasty moved to Moling (today's Nanjing) and built a city on the original site of Jinling City in Stone Mountain, naming it Stone City. It guards the intersection of the Qinhuai River and the Yangtze River. "It is a city because of the mountains and a pond because of the river. The terrain is dangerous and solid, and it is particularly strange." It is an important military town that ensures the security of the western part of the capital Jiankang City. It is also a battleground for military strategists.
