About Xizhaimen
The Xizhai Gate is an important defensive facility in the ancient Chinese village fort building system and is mostly located on the west side of the village wall. The Xizhai Gate in Xinglongchang, Chongqing was built in 1853. It adopts a single-arch and double-coupled flat structure. The existing wall and the status of the district-level cultural protection unit confirm its historical value. The Xizhaimen in Wanlou Village, Yongcheng, Henan, once served as the core defense line of the New Fourth Army's battle in 1941. Its military function was reflected through the double village gate closing tactic. The Zhoujiakou West Village Gate system includes 9 gates. The Hongji Gate and other gates build a three-dimensional defense system through blue brick walls and moats. After they were demolished in the 1930s, only the memory of place names remained.
