About Tianjin Old Town Museum

Tianjin Old City Museum is a self-financed institution organized by the Tianjin Nankai District Culture and Tourism Bureau. It is located in the courtyard of the Xu Family, a traditional residence. It was originally the residence of Xu Pu'an, the comprador of the British businessman Tianjin Macquarie Company. It was built in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China. It is a well-preserved typical traditional residence with three-in-four courtyards in urban Tianjin. The museum was officially planned to be built in 2000 and opened in 2004. On December 23, the 600th anniversary of Tianjin's city construction was opened to the public to commemorate the 600th anniversary of Tianjin's founding. As of 2022, the Old City Museum has 274 pieces/set of cultural relics, recreating Tianjin's 600 years of urban development.
