About Shangzhai Cultural Exhibition Hall

Shangzhai Culture Exhibition Hall, designed by the ancient architecture and garden design office of the former Beijing Municipal Cultural Relics Bureau, is the first museum in China named after archaeological culture and the first Neolithic Culture Exhibition Hall in Beijing. It is located in the south of Shangzhai Village, Jinhai Lake, Pinggu District, Beijing. In 1982, the Shangzhai Cultural Site was discovered by the Beijing Municipal Cultural Relics Bureau. In October 1987, the construction of the Shangzhai Cultural Exhibition Hall began. On September 27, 1989, it was opened to the public. The main body of the museum is designed and built based on the semi-underground horse frame shack where the ancestors lived. The whole museum covers an area of 8,500 square meters, with a construction area of 1,284 square meters and an exhibition hall area of 907 square meters.
