About Madoutan Ruins
The Madoutan ruins are located to the west of the Docktan ruins park in Jinghe Street, Dongxihu District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province. The site was discovered during the cultural relics census in Wuhan in 1984, and was announced as a provincial cultural relics protection unit by the Hubei Provincial Government in 1992. The Madoutan site belongs to the Neolithic Age and contains remains from the Yangshao Culture, Qujialing Culture, Shijiahe Culture and other periods. The site covers an area of about 8,000 to 10,800 square meters, and the cultural layer is 1.5 to 5.1 meters thick. Cultural relics such as stone axes, stone adzes, pottery tripods, pottery pots, and animal bones have been unearthed. This site is of great value for studying the prehistoric settlement patterns and civilization process in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River.
