About National Natural History Museum of China 40
The National Natural History Museum of China, whose predecessor can be traced back to the Preparatory Office of the Central Museum of Nature established in 1951 and named Beijing Museum of Nature in 1962, is located at No. 126 Tianqiao South Street, Dongcheng District, Beijing. The museum was opened to the public in January 1959. It has a building area of 23,246 square meters, including 9,987.8 square meters of exhibition halls, and receives 1.8 million visitors annually. It is the first large-scale natural history museum built by New China on its own. The collections of the National Museum of Nature include exhibition halls for invertebrates, ancient reptiles, dinosaur parks, ancient mammals, animals and human friends, the plant world, the origin of man, and magical Africa. The number of rare specimens in the museum ranks first among domestic natural history museums.
