About Huitong Temple
Huitong Temple is a Buddhist temple built during the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty. It is located on a small island in the northwest corner of the West Sea of Shichahai, Xicheng District, Beijing. It is surrounded by water and adjacent to the ancient Shuiguan ruins. The building was originally named Fahua Temple, and was named Zhenshui Guanyin Temple because of its water control function. After reconstruction in the 26th year of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (1761), it was named "Huitong Temple" and retained the imperial poem stele made by Qianlong. The stele was listed as a cultural relic protection unit in Xicheng District in 2007. The original building complex faced north and south and was completely demolished in 1976 due to the construction of Beijing Subway Line 2.
