Cash in Kunming – where it's still needed Walking

Cash in Kunming – where it's still needed Walking around Kunming with a wallet full of cash feels old school. But a little bit is still useful. Places that prefer cash: Small fruit and vegetable stalls at morning markets (Zhuanxin Market is a good example) Some temple entrance fees that cost just 5-10 RMB Public bathrooms in older parts of town (yes, 1 RMB is still a thing) Cable car ticket counters when the card reader decides not to work Places that won't take cash: Metro stations – QR code only Most restaurants in popular tourist areas Didi rides (paid through the app) Chain stores and newer shops How much cash to carry: 200 RMB in small bills is plenty. Keep 50 RMB hidden in the phone case for emergencies. ⚠️ A small embarrassment that happens often: handing over a 100 RMB bill for a 12 RMB bowl of noodles. The owner may not have change. Use smaller bills or just use the phone. 💡 The breakfast cart grandmas selling warm soy milk? They love cash. They also love when customers have exact change. 👉 Still using cash or fully switched to mobile payments?
