Sayram Lake – the Atlantic’s last tear 💧 High in the Tianshan Mountains, Sayram Lake sits at 2,000 meters. The water is so clear you can see rocks 10 meters down. Locals call it “the Atlantic’s last tear” because moisture from the Atlantic Ocean travels here before dropping as rain. In summer, the shore turns into a carpet of wildflowers – yellow, purple, white. Yaks and horses graze. The air is cool even in July. Drive or hire a car from Yining (2 hours). Walk along the wooden boardwalk, rent a bike, or just sit and stare. No bad angles here. Entry 70 RMB. Stay overnight in a yurt near the lake for sunrise. The sky turns pink and orange over the water. Worth the cold morning.
