Jingdezhen Ancient Kiln – Where You Can Still Smell

By Meet JIngdezhen · Jingdezhen

Jingdezhen Ancient Kiln – Where You Can Still Smell 1,000 Years of Fire Not many places let you stand where potters stood in the Song Dynasty. Jingdezhen Ancient Kiln Folk Customs Museum does. The site covers 83 hectares. But don‘t worry about the size — the layout is walkable. The main areas are the Ancient Kiln Zone and the Folk Customs Museum Zone. In the kiln zone, you’ll find five types of historical kilns: Song Dynasty Dragon Kiln, Yuan Dynasty Mantou Kiln, Ming Dynasty Gourd Kiln, and Qing Dynasty Town Kiln. Each has a different shape and purpose. The Dragon Kiln runs up a hillside. The Mantou Kiln looks like a steamed bun from above. The Gourd Kiln has two chambers. The tour explains why each design existed. The highlight is the Qing Dynasty Town Kiln — the last of its kind still standing. Guides explain how the kiln fired porcelain for the imperial court. You can walk inside and see the firebox, the ash deposits, and the brickwork that hasn‘t been touched in over a century. The scale is bigger than most travelers expect. Adult ticket is 95 RMB. Students pay 45 RMB. Children under 1.2 meters enter free.
