Porcelain Music – An Orchestra Made of China You

By Meet JIngdezhen · Jingdezhen

Porcelain Music – An Orchestra Made of China You haven’t heard traditional music until you‘ve heard it played on ceramic instruments. Inside the Ancient Kiln site, a small theater hosts performances several times a day. The musicians play porcelain flutes, porcelain bells, porcelain drums, porcelain string instruments. The tones are bright and pure — like water dripping into a ceramic bowl. The repertoire includes traditional Jiangxi folk songs and some classical pieces rearranged for the unique instrument set. The musicians wear traditional costumes, and the setting is an open-sided pavilion surrounded by bamboo and old trees. No extra ticket required — admission to the Ancient Kiln site covers it. Just check the performance schedule at the entrance when you arrive.
