Taoxichuan: More Than Just a Ceramics Market Taoxichuan

By Meet JIngdezhen · Jingdezhen

Taoxichuan: More Than Just a Ceramics Market Taoxichuan is part industrial museum, part art gallery, part nightlife district. The original building was State-owned Porcelain Factory No. 1. The renovation kept 22 old factory buildings and kiln structures intact, turning them into exhibition halls, shops, and workspaces. The Saturday market is what draws most people. Over 200 young ceramicists and designers set up booths. You can buy anything from a 10 RMB ceramic whistle to a 1,000 RMB art piece. But even on weekdays, the site is worth visiting. The permanent shops carry curated collections from established makers. After dark, the red brick buildings glow in artificial light. There’s live music on weekends, open-air bars, and restaurants serving both Jiangxi food and international cuisine. It‘s free to enter. Come in the late afternoon, watch the sunset over the old smokestacks, then stay for dinner.
