Hefang Street: Old Hangzhou in One Walking Street

Hefang Street: Old Hangzhou in One Walking Street Hefang Street is the best preserved historical street in Hangzhou. The buildings are Ming and Qing style, and the street is narrow enough to feel intimate. During the day, it’s packed with snack stalls and souvenir shops. Try the stinky tofu (less stinky than Changsha’s version), sweet osmanthus cakes, and the famous Ding Sheng cake — a steamed rice cake said to bring good luck to students taking exams. At night, the red lanterns come on. The street turns quieter. Street performers sometimes set up near the temple gate. Walk all the way to the end and you’ll reach the Drum Tower, lit up against the dark sky. Metro: Ding’an Road Station (Line 1). Hefang Street is a 5‑minute walk from Exit D. No entrance fee. Two to three hours is plenty.
