The Terracotta Warriors: More Than a Photo Op Three

By Meet Xi‘an · Xi'an

The Terracotta Warriors: More Than a Photo Op Three pits. Thousands of soldiers. Every face different. The Terracotta Warriors were buried with China’s first emperor over 2,200 years ago. Farmers digging a well stumbled on them in 1974. Now it’s one of the most famous archaeological sites on earth. Pit 1 is the largest — rows upon rows of life‑size warriors, each with unique facial features, hairstyles, and armor. Pit 2 holds the cavalry and chariots. Pit 3 is the command post. Go early. The site opens at 8:30am. By 10am, tour groups flood in. A private car from Xi’an takes about an hour. Entry 120 RMB (March‑November) or 80 RMB (December‑February). Don’t rush. The museum inside the complex has bronze chariots and other treasures. Two to three hours minimum.
