Lingering Garden – Smaller but Quieter Alternative If the Humble Administrator‘s Garden feels too crowded, this is your escape. The Lingering Garden is smaller, quieter, and beautifully maintained. It covers just 2.3 hectares but packs in halls, ponds, and rock formations. The garden was built in 1593. The corridors are lined with lattice windows that frame different garden views, each one changing with every step. The central area is dominated by a large pond with an elevated walkway around it. The surrounding rock gardens and bamboo groves offer quiet corners to sit. Tickets are 55 RMB in peak season, 45 RMB off-season. The garden tends to be quieter in the late afternoon. Go there for a slower, more contemplative garden experience. It’s within walking distance of Tiger Hill, so combine them in one day. From Tiger Hill, it’s about a 15-minute walk or a short Didi ride. For an even deeper dive, book the combo ticket with nearby Hanshan Temple, known for the poem “Outside Gusu City, Hanshan Temple, the midnight bell reaches the traveler’s boat.” A tourist shuttle line conveniently stops at Hanshan Temple, Lingering Garden, and Tiger Hill in sequence.
