Tongli Ancient Town – A Half-Day Escape from Suzhou

Tongli Ancient Town – A Half-Day Escape from Suzhou About 30 minutes from downtown Suzhou, Tongli is one of the most beautiful water towns in the region. It has fewer tourists than Zhouzhuang and more canals than most other options. Take Metro Line 4 to Tongli Station, then a short taxi ride (about 10 minutes). You can also take a direct bus from Suzhou‘s North Bus Station. The town is compact enough to explore in half a day. Must-sees: Tuisi Garden (a smaller but exquisite garden), the boat ride through narrow canals, and the ancient bridges. The entry ticket is 100 RMB (80 if purchased online in advance), which grants access to the nine main attractions inside. The ticket is valid for two days. Go early on a weekday to beat the crowds. By 9am, the alleys fill up, but Tongli is still quieter than Zhouzhuang. If you stay overnight, entry is free after 5pm for the street area. For lunch, try the local boat noodles and freshwater fish dishes near the central canal.
