Xi’an always feels different when you walk through its old gates. Today I brought my guests to one of the most iconic parts of the city — the ancient walls and gate area. I like starting a Xi’an route here because it gives travelers a clear first impression: this is not just a modern city, this is a place where history is still standing in front of you. When guests visit Xi’an for the first time, I usually tell them to slow down a little here. Look at the bricks, the scale of the gate, the red lanterns, and the way people still move through the old city today. That contrast is what makes Xi’an special. Ancient, busy, local, and alive at the same time.
