About Modern Hotel
Madier Hotel is located at No. 89 Central Street, Daoli District, Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province. In the 32nd year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1906), Joseph Casp, a Russian Jew (later a French citizen), hired a well-known European architect to design and build a three-story hotel. The Madier Hotel is a brick-and-wood structure with one underground floor and three floors above ground. It has a fan-shaped facade with three floors, and some have a four-story Mengsha style attic. The ground floor is a base, and the walls imitate heavy stone. Large-scale floor-to-ceiling windows are used on the second and third floors. Full-height pilasters are used on the third floor. Semi-circular windows are used on the third floor. The eaves parapet and balcony railings adopt the Art Nouveau architectural style.
