About Lijiang Old Town Waterwheel

The Lijiang Old Town Waterwheel is located at the entrance of Lijiang Old Town. It is a landmark building and symbol of Lijiang Old Town. There are two waterwheels, often called the mother-child waterwheel or the lover's waterwheel. As an ancient agricultural irrigation tool in my country, it used to be used for pounding rice, grinding flour, and lifting water for irrigation. Nowadays, it is mainly used as a landmark building for tourists to enjoy. The waterwheel was built in 1998 and repaired in 2011. Its design integrates the historical and cultural context of the ancient city and represents the historical tradition of using waterwheels for production and life in the ancient city.
