About Jiaxiu Pavilion
Jiaxiu Tower is located at No. 8 Cuiwei Lane, Nanming District, Guiyang City, Guizhou Province. Situated on the Nanming River, it was first built in the 26th year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty (1598), with the building resting on a massive rock in the riverbed. Over the centuries, it underwent numerous renovations and repairs; the existing structure dates back to its reconstruction in the first year of the Xuantong reign of the Qing Dynasty (1909). Jiaxiu Tower was initiated by Jiang Dongzhi, then Governor of Guizhou, and Ying Chaoqing, the Inspector-General of Guizhou, who hoped that the tower would help Guizhou achieve “outstanding scholars and officials,” and that it would serve as a place for young students to study and change the situation where Guizhou lacked talented individuals.
