About White Water Terraces
Bai Shui Tai is located at the northern foothills of the Haba Snow Mountain, in Baidi Village, Sanba Township, Shangri-La City, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, China. It is currently the largest cold spring-type freshwater carbonate spring plateau discovered in China. Situated 101 kilometers from the county seat, it covers an area of approximately 3 square kilometers. With an elevation of 2,380 meters, Bai Shui Tai is the birthplace of the Naxi Dongba religion. Situated in a temperate and highland climate zone, the mountain’s rock formations are predominantly limestone, and its water system belongs to the Bai Shui River basin, primarily replenished by snowmelt from the Yulong Snow Mountain. The main process behind its formation involves the decomposition and precipitation of dissolved calcium carbonate in the springs, which then give rise to spring concretions.
