About Site of the four directions fort
The Sifang Fort site is located in Yuexiu Park, Yuexiu Mountain Community, Hongqiao Street, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, China. It was first built in the 10th year of Shunzhi (1653) in the Qing Dynasty. The Sifang Fort site was originally called Yongning Fort. During the reconstruction, it was renamed Yongkang Fort to avoid the Taoguang Emperor's name. Because the length and width of the fort resembled a square, it was commonly known as the "Sifang Fort". During the First Opium War, on May 25, the 21st year of Daoguang (1841), the British army occupied the forts in the north of the city and used the Sifang Fort as their headquarters. On May 31 of the same year, 103 villagers in the Sanyuanli area and people from Panyu, Nanhai, Zengcheng, Conghua and other places surrounded the Sifang Fort.
