About Panli Building

Panli Building is a villa located in Liyuan Garden. It was built in 1926. Its name is a combination of the names of the owner of the garden, Xie Weili, and his father, Xie Shengpan. The building is three and a half stories high, with yellow walls, green tiles, cornices and brackets on the exterior. It has a Chinese palace style, and also incorporates Western elements such as European and American windows and ancient Roman pillars. The interior has a layout of three rooms and two corridors, with the hall on the first floor, bedrooms and living spaces on the second and third floors, and the ancestor hall on the top floor. This building is the center of daily life for the owner Xie Weili and his four wives. Most of the interior decoration and household facilities were imported from foreign countries, and they were equipped with modern sanitary facilities that were rare at the time.
