About Kaiping established garden
KaiPing Liyuan is located in Genghua Village, Tangkou Town, KaiPing County, Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province. It is the private garden of Xie Weili, a Chinese overseas Chinese who settled in the United States and was born in Tangkou Town. KaiPing Liyuan takes the name of its founder, embodying the meaning of “to establish and to cultivate people.” Construction of KaiPing Liyuan began in 1926 and was initially completed in 1936, covering an area of approximately 19,600 square meters. The garden integrates traditional gardening techniques with Western architectural styles and the distinctive features of Jiangnan’s water towns. Its unique architectural style stands out as one of a kind among Chinese gardens, making it one of China’s most well-preserved gardens that combine Chinese and Western elements. KaiPing Liyuan holds an important position among Chinese overseas Chinese gardens.
