About Mingshi Lou

Mingshi Tower is located in Zili Village, Tangkou Town, Kaiping City, Guangdong Province. It is a watchtower built by overseas Chinese Fang Runwen in 1925. The 6-story building adopts a combined Chinese and Western design, incorporating elements such as ancient Roman domes, Ionic columns and Chinese cornices and brackets. It is now a core component of the World Cultural Heritage "Kaiping Diaolou and Villages". The building has both residential and defensive functions. The building materials are from more than ten countries including Germany and Italy. There are relics of overseas Chinese life such as Jinshan boxes and Western cooking utensils preserved inside.
