About Barwo Artists Association of Kwangtung(Cantonese Opera Academy)
The Eight Harmony Guild Hall is an organization of the Cantonese Opera Artists Guild. It was established in the 15th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu (1889, sometimes said to be the tenth year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu) of the Qing Dynasty by Cantonese opera artists such as Kwong Xinhua, Liao Jiaoying and Lin Zhi in Haibang Street, Huangsha, Guangzhou. It takes the meaning of "harmony from all directions" and "harmony and mutual benefit". Its predecessor was the Qionghua Guild Hall in Foshan. Cantonese opera was banned after it was burned in the fourth year of Xianfeng (1854). The clubhouse is divided into eight halls and once housed welfare facilities such as convenience clinics (medical rooms) and nursing homes.
