About Yokohama Specie Bank
The former site of Yokohama Zhengjin Bank Qingdao Branch is located at No. 1 Guantao Road, Shibei District, Qingdao City. It was built in 1919, covering an area of 4,780 square meters (approximately 7.17 acres) and a building area of 1,787 square meters. It was designed by Japanese architect Nagano Uheiji and constructed by Huasheng Construction Company. The main body of the building is a two-story masonry and wood structure above ground, with a basement and attic. The facade adopts the style of an ancient Roman temple, with eight Ionian granite square pilasters and ancient Roman convex eaves pyramid pediments. The main hall is 5.5 meters high and decorated with square caissons. The bank's predecessor was the Qingdao office established on Tangyi Road in November 1913. It closed for a time during the war between Japan and Germany in 1914, but resumed business in November of the same year.
