About Nanxiang Old Town
Nanxiang Ancient Town is located in Nanxiang Town, Jiading District, Shanghai, covering an area of 94 hectares. It was first built in the fourth year of Liang Tianjian (505) in the Southern Dynasties. It was named after the White Crane Nanxiang Temple that formed the town. It has enjoyed the reputation of "Yin Nanxiang" and "Little Nanxiang Saisu City" since ancient times. The ancient town developed into a commercial giant through the Song and Yuan dynasties, and reached its peak in the Ming and Qing dynasties. It now has two historical and cultural areas, Guyi Garden and Nanxiang Twin Pagodas. It retains the water system layout of the Song Dynasty and the street pattern of the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
