About Qianxi Temple
Qianxi Temple, also known as Zhaizu Hall, is a cave temple in the northernmost part of Xishan Mountain in Longmen. The founding era is unknown, but relevant documents have been recorded in the Tang Dynasty. The "Tang Qianxi Ji" written by Du Xuanyu in the eighth year of Xiantong (867 AD) of Emperor Yizong of the Tang Dynasty is a clear example. The name of the temple first appeared in some poems of the Song Dynasty. According to legend, it was once the villa of Li Fan, the prime minister of the Tang Dynasty. It was most prosperous in the Song and Jin Dynasties. The original wooden structure of the cave eaves was built in the Qing Dynasty. In 1990, it was renovated to imitate Tang wood structure style and paved with stone floors. The "Qianxi Temple" cave in the Xishan Grottoes area of Longmen today is more than nine meters high and wide, and nearly seven meters deep.
