About old east gate
Old East Gate is a group of ancient buildings of the Republic of China located at No. 104 Huaihai East Road, Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province. It was built in 1910. The buildings contain relics from the Republic of China period and the post-liberation period, integrating Chinese and Western architectural styles. The building complex has been used as military land for a long time and is now an experiential creative leisure and commercial district named "Today's Rainy World". Old East Gate has been a military hub for a long time in history. During the Anti-Japanese War, it was the headquarters of Li Zongren commanding the Taierzhuang Campaign. During the War of Liberation, it was the combat headquarters of the Kuomintang Army’s Xuzhou “Suppression General” Du Yuming during the Huaihai Campaign. After the founding of New China, this place has been a military camp compound.
