About gongyuanjing

Gongyuan Well is located in Bayi Park, Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province. This place has been known as Jiangxi Gongyuan since the Song Dynasty. In the Ming Dynasty, it was the third largest Gongyuan in the country, able to accommodate 10,000 people taking exams at the same time. The well was used for washing and drinking water for examiners and candidates, and is now listed as an immovable cultural relic. In the ninth year of Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1744), Peng Jiaping, the chief envoy, dug a well in Gongyuan and obtained a stone tablet with an inscription in the ninth year of Wanli's reign in the Ming Dynasty (1581). It has been repaired and a stone pavilion has been built to protect it. At night, lights are used to outline its night scene.
