About Jingan Temple

Jing'an Temple, also known as Jing'an Ancient Temple, is located in Jing'an District, Shanghai. It is said that its history can be traced back to the 10th year of Wu Chiwu (247), the grandson of the Three Kingdoms. It was originally named Hudu Chongyuan (Xuan) Temple. In the first year of Xiangfu's reign in Song Dazhong (1008), it was renamed Jing'an Temple. In the ninth year of Jiading in the Southern Song Dynasty (1216), the temple moved from the Wusong River to the edge of Feijing Bang in Lupu (today's Nanjing West Road), which preceded the establishment of Shanghai. The total construction area of Jing'an Temple reaches 22,000 square meters. The entire temple forms a layout of a front temple and a back pagoda. It is composed of three main buildings: the Main Hall, the Tianwang Hall, and the Three Holy Temples. It is the oldest Buddhist temple in Shanghai.
