About Former Residence of Soong Chingling
Former Residence of Song Qingling, Beijing, is located at No. 46, Houhai North Coast, Xicheng District, Beijing. It was built during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. Soong Ching Ling moved here in April 1963 and worked, studied and lived here until her death on May 29, 1981. It was opened to the public on May 29, 1982. This is a typical Chinese-style courtyard. When you walk into the former residence, you will find a quiet garden surrounded by rockeries, shady flowers and trees, and clear water. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the party and government originally planned to build a residence specifically for Comrade Soong Ching Ling in Beijing. However, she repeatedly refused because the country's affairs were in dire need. Finally, with the personal intervention of Premier Zhou, the palace garden was used to renovate and update the old buildings.
