About Shiliupu
Shiliupu is a historical place name along the Huangpu River in Shanghai. The geographical concept began in the first year of Tiansheng in the Northern Song Dynasty (1023) when fishermen, salt people, farmers and other groups exchanged goods along the Shanghai Pu area. The trading settlement was formed. The place name originated from the joint protection and defense organization established to defend against the Taiping Army during the Xianfeng and Tongzhi years of the Qing Dynasty. The original plan was to divide it into 27 Pus, but only 16 areas were actually established. Wharfs have been built in this area since before the Opium War, and developed into a steel wharf hub in the early 20th century. At its peak, the average daily passenger flow exceeded 40,000. After 1927, it gradually declined due to the shift of the economic center of gravity to the north.
