About Chuzu Temple
The First Ancestor's Nunnery, also known as the "Dharma-faced Temple", is located northwest of the Shaolin Temple in Dengfeng City, Zhengzhou City, Henan Province. It was built in memory of the First Ancestor Bodhidharma in the seventh year of Xuanhe in the Northern Song Dynasty (1125), covering an area of about 3,400 square meters. The Chu Zu'an building complex faces south, and the main buildings include the mountain gate, the main hall and the Thousand Buddhas Pavilion. The main hall is three rooms wide and three rooms deep. It has a single-eave mountain-style green glazed tile sheared roof, with far-reaching eaves. A huge bucket arch is placed under the eaves. There are two panel doors in the open room, and mullioned windows in the secondary rooms on both sides. Under the front eaves are six stone pillars carved with patterns of curly grass and birds.
