About Middle Fangbang Road
Fangbang Middle Road is an east-west street in the central part of Huangpu District, Shanghai. It is located in the core area of Laochengxiang and connects Yuyuan Garden and Bund BFC. It was formerly known as Fangbang River and was formed in 1913 by filling in the water and building a road. Historically, it was the commercial central axis of the old city of Shanghai. It is adjacent to the City God Temple to the north and the old county government office to the south. Many time-honored shops such as Tong Hanchuntang and Wu Liangcai were gathered along the line. In 1999, the western section of the road was transformed into the "Shanghai Old Street" cultural tourism district imitating the Ming and Qing styles, while the eastern section retained the residential style of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China.
