About Glacial Lake

Glacial lake, also known as glacial lake, is a lake formed by glacier erosion depressions or moraine blocking troughs and accumulated water. The English name is glacial lake. Mainly distributed in high-altitude glaciation areas, concentrated in Tibet, Xinjiang, Western Sichuan and Qinghai in China, such as the Nyenchen Tanglha Mountains, the Himalayas and other areas; globally found in Lake Baikal in Russia, Abraham Lake in Canada and other places. Its formation is directly related to glacier activity: glacier erosion forms cirques and troughs, valleys and depressions, and the accumulated moraine transported blocks river channels and forms lakes. Typical representatives include Basucuo in Tibet and Tianchi in Xinjiang, among which Xinluhai is the largest glacial terminal moraine barrier lake in China.
