About Zhenru Temple
Zhenru Zen Temple is located on Yunju Mountain in the northwest of Yongxiu County, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. It was first built in the Yuanhe period of Emperor Xianzong of the Tang Dynasty (806-810). The founder was Zen Master Daorong. Zhenru Zen Temple is the ancestral temple of the Caodong Sect, one of the five Zen sects of Chinese Buddhism. It was hailed as one of the three model temples in the country by Zhao Puchu, President of the Chinese Buddhist Association. Since 2013, its lower courtyard Qingyun Zen Temple has held meditation classes for the public every year. Zen Master Xuyun, a great figure in modern Zen Buddhism, passed away in this temple. The most distinctive feature of Zhenru Zen Temple is its temple style that pays equal attention to agriculture and Zen.
