About Songyang Academy
Songyang Academy is an ancient Chinese institution of higher learning located at the foot of Junji Peak, 3 kilometers north of Dengfeng City, Zhengzhou City, Henan Province. It was first built in the eighth year of Taihe (484) in the Northern Wei Dynasty. It was originally named Songyang Temple and was a Buddhist temple. When the Taishi Academy was rebuilt in the second year of Song Jingyou's reign (1035), it was named Songyang Academy and a dean was appointed to take charge of the affairs of the academy. Songyang Academy is one of the birthplaces of Cheng-Zhu Neo-Confucianism in the Song Dynasty. Its architectural style is a "specimen" for studying ancient Chinese academy architecture, education system and Confucian culture. The architectural layout of Songyang Academy maintains the architectural layout of the Qing Dynasty.
