About Former Site of Beihai Customs Building

The former site of the Beihai Customs Building is located in the Beihai Customs Compound at No. 6 Guanhai Road, Haicheng District, Beihai City, Guangxi. It is a three-story square Western building with a side length of 18 meters and a construction area of about 1,000 square meters. It was built in 1883. The building was designated as a cultural relic protection unit in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in 1994, and was announced as one of the fifth batch of national key cultural relic protection units on June 25, 2001. The Yangguan Building was built in 1883. In the 50 years from 1877 to 1936, the customs revenue reached more than 9 million yuan. All these tariffs were turned over as reparations for the unequal treaties. At that time, Beihai Customs was nominally established by the Qing government, but in fact it was a tool controlled by imperialist countries such as Britain.
