About Villa Sassoon
The Sassoon Villa is a British Gothic country-style holiday villa located at No. 2409 Hongqiao Road, Shanghai. It was designed and built by the British Jewish businessman Victor Sassoon in 1932. The building adopts a brick and wood structure, with the exposed dark wood frame contrasting with the light yellow walls. The steep red tile roof, handmade teak decoration and imported building materials highlight luxury. It is now a cultural relic protection unit in Shanghai, and the main building is well preserved. It was originally Sassoon's private vacation residence and was occupied by the Japanese army as a reception place during the Pacific War. In 1945, it was sold to Li Shuxiong and rebuilt into Hongqiao Club. On the eve of Shanghai's liberation, it served as Chen Yi's temporary headquarters.
