About Thousand Buddha Cave

Thousand Buddha Cave is located on a loess hill 5 kilometers southwest of Jimusar County, Xinjiang. It is located at the northern foot of the Tianshan Mountains and connected to Wuqi Highway to the north. It is a Changji Prefecture-level key cultural relics protection unit and is now a national AAAA-level tourist attraction. In some areas, it is known as the "Buddhist Arctic". Its history can be traced back to the remains of Gaotai Temple during the Uighur Dynasty in Beiting, Tang Dynasty. It was one of the three famous temples in the Western Regions at that time. In the thirty-sixth year of Qianlong's reign (1771), it was discovered and rebuilt by local residents. It became a Buddhist architectural complex that combined grottoes and ground temples. It is also a relatively well-preserved zigzag cave Buddhist temple. Thousand Buddhas Cave has been destroyed and rebuilt many times.
