About Shaolin Monastery
Shaolin Temple (English name: Shaolin Temple) is located in Dengfeng City, Zhengzhou City, Henan Province. It is one of the first batch of national AAAAA-level tourist attractions, a world cultural heritage, the most famous temple in the world, the world-renowned ancestral temple of Zen and the birthplace of Shaolin Kung Fu. It was first built in the 19th year of Taihe in the Northern Wei Dynasty (495). It was a temple built by Emperor Xiaowen to accommodate the Indian monk Batuo who had left to preach. It was named "Shaolin Temple" because it is located in the dense jungle of Shaoshi Mountain in the hinterland of Songshan Mountain. The permanent residence of Shaolin Temple covers an area of about 57,600 square meters, and has the Shaolin Temple Pagoda Forest, the largest existing ancient pagoda building in the country.
