About 10,000 Tree Cottage
Wanmu Thatched Cottage is located at No. 3, Changxing Lane, Zhongshan 4th Road, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. It was originally the Qiu family's study room. It was built in the ninth year of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty (1804). It was the residence of the Qiu family's children in Guangdong Province who went to the provincial capital to take exams. In the seventeenth year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1891), Kang Youwei founded Wanmu Thatched Cottage here, gathering disciples to give lectures and publicize reform ideas, and cultivated reform backbones such as Liang Qichao and Chen Qianqiu. He also completed works such as "New Learning Apocrypha" and "Confucius' Reform" here to provide theoretical support for the reform. After the failure of the Reform Movement of 1898, the thatched cottage was closed down by the Qing government in 1898.
