About Canton Custom House
Canton Customs House, commonly known as the "Big Bell Tower", is located at No. 29 Yanjiang West Road, Liwan District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. It was built in March of the third year of the Republic of China (1914) and completed in May of the fifth year of the Republic of China (1916), with a construction area of 4,421 square meters. The Guangdong Customs Building faces north and faces south. It has a reinforced concrete structure. The east and south facades are made of granite. It is four stories high and 31.85 meters high. The first floor is treated as a platform and built with strips of stone. There are more than 20 stone steps in the middle leading to the door to the second floor. There are tall double columns and leaning columns on both sides of the gate to support pediments and arches.
